Encouragement for the Parents

To Both Parents

Supervised visitation can be difficut and uncomfortabe at times.  Often there are hurt and angry feelings toward the other parent, and it seems impossible to have a positive attitude about supervised visitation.  Remember, that both of you care about your children, and that, if possible, children benefit greatly from having two parents in their lives.

At The Family Room, we strive to create the most natural "at home" enviornment to ensure safe, secure and enjoyable visitation.

Tips for the Visiting Parent

Engaging with your child in the presence of somone else may be uncomfortable for you, at least at the beginning and you probably have many questions and concerns.  Do your best to focus on your relationship with your child during your visit and your patience and commitment will pay off.  Some suggestions that might be helpful are to arrive and depart on time for your visits and say brief and positive goodbyes with your child when your visit is over.

Tips for the Custodial Parent

Sueprvised visitation can also be a challenge for the custodial parent.  Typically, as the custodial parent, you have been taking care of your child's everyday needs and have a routine for yourself and your family.  Understandably, you will have concerns and questions about the visits and how they may affect your child.  Some suggestions that might be helpful are to make sure you are knowledgable regarding the terms of the order for supervised visits; be positive and encourage your child for a pleasant visit; have your child ready and time for each visit and avoid quizzing your child about the visit.
